Sergei Rachmaninoff: Étude-tableau op. 39 n. 6 in a minor "The Little Red Riding Hood"
What is my message?
My student asked me a very good question: what my message was within this piece by Rachmaninoff and sharing the video of it with the digital world. While the joy of sharing music i love is reason and message enough and I even have a very long-term experience and feeling connected with this piece, which I might share another time, I realised through this conversation with my student what was really happening here: I was returning to life; returning to feeling like a pianist at the very centre of my heart. And this feeling makes my heart feel warm, secure, fulfilled and light!Rachmaninoff wrote this opus 39 with 9 so-called picture-etudes during the tumultuous moments of the Ru'''an revolution, 1916/17. The composer went into exile directly afterwards, fleeing Ru''ia to Germany and then America. One can hear the dramatic atmosphere of this moment in history and how the composer dealt with his emotions about it.This 6th Etude in op. 39 is commonly known as "The Little Red Riding Hood", after the well-known old fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, due to its wild and racing quality with sudden growls of an angry wolf 🐺.
Have you thought about what your true identity is?
